After you are all ready for lugging your stroller all around the parks, the next most important item you can have at Disney is the backpack. If you are able to get by without a backpack, just know that I envy you deeply. Until a time comes where I can for the most part trust my little ones to not spill something or need some accessory, I am
stuck with so lucky to get to carry one. 🙂
But, in all seriousness, a backpack can be your best friend while touring the parks. It will keep all your items neatly tucked away in an easy to grab pack. Here are my top picks for what to pack in your Disney backpack:
Baby Wipes. Never underestimate the power of a baby wipe. Even if your kids are out of diapers, pack a travel pack of baby wipes. I promise, you’ll thank me. They are great for cleaning up spills, sticky Mickey Ice Cream Bar drips, Dole Whip dribbles…..see where I’m going?
Portable Phone Charger. I am convinced that all the magic that is happening at Disney drains your phone battery twice as fast. Of course, it’s probably because we are taking a picture every 5 minutes, but no matter! Always have a phone charger with you, and don’t forget the cord! There is a place to charge your phone in the Parks, but having a phone charger with you will save you from having to go phone-less (think of all the pictures you would miss!)
Extra Clothes. If you have kids under the age of 7, bring extra clothes in your backpack! On our last trip, my littles were 4 and 2 and I only had to use the extra clothes once for each. We probably could have made it thru the whole trip without carrying around the extra clothes, but I feel better knowing we wouldn’t have to leave the park just to change or have to buy new ones while in the Parks.
Ziploc Baggies or Wet Bag. Remember those diaper days, or maybe you still have a diaper wearer. You used to never go anywhere without a way to store those wet clothes on the go. Disney is no different! There are splash pads and water rides that will get you wet, or someone in your party will inevitably spill the amazingly delicious juice at ‘Ohana (totally been there, done that!). Having a way to store your wet items until you get back to the hotel room will save you from getting anything else wet in your backpack, throwing the item out, or begging a cast member for a plastic bag (which I am pretty sure they would give you in a snap, but Disney bags don’t tie up nicely). Just keep a couple of Ziploc gallon bags or a wet bag from your baby days tucked away in your bag and you are all set!
Frogg Toggs Chilly Towel. Florida is hot and humid. Even the hardiest of traveler will appreciate these towels that can be rewetted to cool you off. I did not purchase one before our last trip and ended up buying a similar item at the Parks….let’s just say I MUCH prefer our Frogg Toggs Chilly Towel to that one….
Umbrella/Ponchos. Florida, the land of hot, sticky, and unpredictable rain showers. I mean, everyone swears that wherever they live has super unpredictable weather (me included, I mean, just wait 5 minutes and it will change!), but a Disney vacation is not where you want to be caught unexpectedly by a rain shower. Yes, you can purchase ponchos from the nearest gift shop , but you will be paying a pretty penny for it. At least stock up on enough for each person in your party to have 1 poncho, plus 1 for the stroller! This will save you from shelling out an unexpected expense during your trip.
Sunblock. Always. Have. Sunscreen. ALWAYS. Unless you love the thrill of peeling sunburnt skin off while waiting in line to meet Ariel, just always have it!
Backpack. And where exactly am I supposed to store all this stuff, huh? Well, I really think that it is a personal choice that depends on a lot of factors. The backpack I use is a diaper bag backpack I bought over 5 years ago. It is nothing fancy and has so many rips, but it has lasted! I can’t even find a comparable option for you all, but it is an awesome bright green Skip Hop bag and I highly recommend their products! Just find an option that works for you!
